The Reuben Dog

A Reuben Style Gourmet Hot Dog!
Reuben Dogs are really nothing new.  Cooks have been making reuben hot dogs for almost as long as sauerkraut has been used for a hot dog topping.  The flavor of this hot dog kind of tastes like reuben sandwich.
I made a German deli style reuben sauce instead of thousand island dressing for this recipe.  The German Reuben Sauce makes all the difference in the world!
     German Deli Style Reuben Sauce:
This recipe yields enough sauce for 2 or 3 hot dogs, depending on the size.
This German Reuben Spread has a zesty flavor!
Place 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise in a mixing bowl.
Add 1 tablespoon of Zesty German Mustard.
     Add 2 tablespoons of ketchup.
     Add 2 teaspoons of horseradish.
Add 2 tablespoons of sweet pickle relish.
     Stir the ingredients together.
Chill the sauce for 20 minutes so the flavors meld.
     Reuben Hot Dog:
This recipe yields 1 Reuben Dog.
Step 1:  Rinse 1/2 cup of sauerkraut twice under cold running water.
Heat a small sauté pan over medium low heat.
Add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter.
     Add the sauerkraut.
Gently sauté the sauerkraut till it is hot.
Keep the sauerkraut warm on a stove top.
Step 2:  Heat skillet or griddle over medium low heat.
Add a few drops of vegetable oil.
Grill an all beef Chicago Vienna Style Hot Dog, till it is lightly browned.
Step 3:  Spread a thin layer of the reuben sauce on a hot dog bun.
Place the hot dog bun on a baking pan.
Place the grilled hot dog on the bun.
Place a few thin slices of swiss cheese over the hot dog.
Place the baking pan with the hot dog in a 300ºF oven.
Bake the hot dog till the cheese starts to melt.
Step 4:  Place the hot dog on a plate.
Place a generous amount of the grilled sauerkraut on the swiss cheese and hot dog.
Garnish the plate with a parsley sprig and a pickle of your choice.
If you like sauerkraut on a hot dog then a Reuben Dog will be to your liking!
