Bacon Bleu Cheeseburger Shorty

     Another Shorty!
In Philadelphia, many local taverns and sandwich shops offer a Shorty on the special menu.  A Shorty is a small Hoagie Sandwich that is usually made with burger that is cut in half.  A Shorty Sandwich can be made with just about any kind of deli style meat or hot prepared item, but a burger patty nearly always gets the nod.
A Cheeseburger Shorty is probably the most popular Shorty Sandwich.  Bleu Cheese & Bacon is a popular burger topping in Philly, so a Shorty made with these items will appeal to a niche market too.  The chopped lettuce, onion and pickle garnish with sliced tomatoes adds refreshing picnic flavors.  Painting the finished Bacon Bleu Cheeseburger Shorty with ketchup and yellow mustard gives this sandwich ballpark style eye appeal.

     Bacon Bleu Cheeseburger Shorty:
This recipe yields 1 Small Hoagie Sandwich.
Step 1:  Heat a cast iron griddle over medium/medium low heat.
Lightly brush the griddle with vegetable oil.
Place 2 slices of bacon on the griddle.
Cook the bacon till it is crispy golden brown.
Set the crisp bacon on a platter and keep it warm on a stove top.
Step 2:  Place a 6 ounce ground beef patty on the griddle.
Grill the burger on both sides till it is almost cooked to the preferred finish temperature.
Step 3:  Place 2 ounces of crumbled Bleu Cheese on the burger.
Pour about 3 tablespoons of water on the griddle around the burger.
Cover the burger with a small dome shaped pot lid.
Let the steam melt the cheese.  (About 20 to 30 seconds.)
Step 4:  Place the Bleu Cheese Burger on a cutting board.
     Cut the burger in half.
Step 5:  Split open an 8" to 10" Soft Hoagie Roll.
Place the 2 Bleu Cheeseburger halves on the Hoagie Roll.
Place the crisp bacon strips on the burger.
     Step 6:  Garnish with:
     - 1/3 cup of small chopped Iceberg Lettuce.
     - 1/4 cup of small chopped onion.
     - 3 tablespoons of chopped dill pickle chips.
     - 4 half moon slices of large tomato.
Step 7:  Set the sandwich on a plate.
Use plastic squirt bottles to paint streaks of Ketchup and Yellow Mustard on the sandwich garnishes.

Viola!  Another street food style Shorty!
